DOROTA HABER-LEHIGH
Dorota holds a Diploma in Botanical Illustration from the Society of Botanical Artists in the UK, degrees in Art and International Studies with a focus on indigenous cultures and a master’s degree in teaching.
Born in Poland, Dorota’s love for nature began when as a child she accompanied her grandparents on mushroom hunting forays, spent hours in her parent's and grandparent's gardens, hiked summers in Tatra mountains, and foraged for wild herbs and fruit.
In her art, she explores the idea of the interconnectedness and fragility of our ecosystems, ecological diversity, and species codependence. Dorota works from sketches in the field and finishes botanical illustrations in her studio, working with both artist-quality colored pencils and watercolors. Dorota also enjoys exploring painting landscapes using pen and ink and watercolor.
Dorota exhibits and teaches drawing regionally, including online teaching. She has participated in many shows at Fairweather Gallery. Recently she has been an artist in residency at Bloedel Reserve on Bainbridge Island. Her recent commissions have included an installation of 25 illustrations of native plants of the Pacific Northwest at the Columbia Memorial Hospital in Seaside, Oregon, and creating a Mahonia Lifecycle Illustration for a Year End Fundraiser for Bloedel Reserve in Washington.
Dorota has self-published 5 coloring books including a Coloring book for Seaside Mill Pond Natural History Park Coloring Book in 2020 which includes 17 illustrations of flora and fauna that can be found in Seaside.
